Atsushi Hirano of design studio AFFORDANCE inc. was in charge of the design direction.

 

Design and Functionality: Everyday Life is the Future

The design was refined to be extremely simple. It conveys messages through its cover, text, signs, and patterns.

The front and back covers feature stippling. Hirano-san, who usually works on graphic design, showed us his analog side through hand-drawn stippling.

It unfolds a story where an unpredictable future awaits those who steadily continue, truly making everyday life the future itself.

 

Typography

Hirano-san's unique typography, while beautiful and dignified, also has an uplifting pop sensibility, illuminating everyday life and the future.

It never gets old, and its simplicity allows each user to weave their own unique story.

The wisteria purple of the endpapers and the wakadake green of the memo pages create a pleasant link with the typography.

 

Atsushi Hirano Profile

Graduated from Tama Art University, Faculty of Art, Department of Graphic Design in 2003. After working at DRAFT Inc., he established design studio AFFORDANCE inc. in 2016.

Centered on graphic design, he handles branding, VI, CI planning, signage planning, and spatial design.

He aims for profound design that encompasses humor and serendipity born from studies, regardless of expression, from digital to analog. He also produces Atsushi Hirano Semisolid Work "a measure of beauty" with the theme of semi-solidity. He also operates "O BAKE PRODUCTS," a product brand that uses discarded materials from Ota City, Gunma Prefecture.

Major awards include: TDC Award, JAGDA Newcomer Award, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, SDA Award, CS Design Award, etc. He is a member of JAGDA and TDC.

Associate Professor at Tama Art University, Faculty of Art, Department of Graphic Design.

 

Comment

This notebook is for achieving great results by steadily accumulating efforts. For the universal act of checking things off, the notebook's contents are kept as simple as possible, and the font is custom-designed. I drew stippling for the binding. This expresses how, without realizing it, continuing something can eventually lead to something amazing. It's like starting with knitting a cover, and it turns into a castle soaring in a forest. Or on the back cover, continuously watering a small plant leads to it taking root and becoming a giant jungle. This is also a message of encouragement for users, reminding them that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
